The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), an arm of the Department of Interior, is de-listing the chicken to comply with a court order issued last year which found that the ground-dwelling bird is not threatened.
The chicken was placed on the "threatened" list, one step below "endangered", in 2014, in a move that the oil and gas industry had pushed hard against due to fears both conventional and unconventional development would be restricted.
