Mitra said the approval was granted on 12 January 2016, with outline development plans for the two fields also completed on 24 December for submission to the government.
The Nam Du discovery sits in Mitra-operated Block 46/07 and the U Minh resource in Mitra-operated Block 51.
Development of the two fields will happen in tandem with three discoveries owned by PetroVietnam Exploration & Production (PVEP).
