The well has drilled down to 3405 metres, and it is now expected to take up to one week to set and cement the 9 5/8” casing after which the well will drill the 8 1/2” reservoir section, which is equivalent to where the oil was discovered in the Phoenix South-1 well, said co-venturer Carnarvon Petroleum.
"This is one of the most exciting periods in the company’s history as it drills this high-impact well in a follow up to last years’ successful Phoenix South-1 oil discovery," said Carnarvon boss Adrian Cook.
