The government is set to release 451 square kilometres of acreage for gas and petroleum exploration near Surat and Injune.
That release is set to take place between October and December, opening the acreage up for competitive tenders, with the government noting successful tenders would still need to meet environmental requirements.
They would also need to meet other requirements, including negotiating land access and compensation agreements with landholders and, where applicable, negotiate native title arrangements with traditional owners.
