A Repsol spokesman confirmed the cuts, but declined to comment specifically on how many people could lose their jobs, or if additional reductions were planned for the future.
"In light of ongoing low global energy prices we've spent significant time considering what our organisation needs to support our future activity levels," said spokesman Brent Anderson.
"This is a very tough week for our company and all of the people who work here.
