Rio Grande LNG gets DOE approval

The US Department of Energy authorised Rio Grande LNG to export up to 27 Mtpa of LNG for a 30-year term last month, according to NextDecade, which is developing the project.

NextDecade expects to receive federal authorisation next year to construct and operate the planned 27-million-tonne-per-annum LNG facility near Brownsville, Texas.

Last year, NextDecade racked up multiple non-binding contracts to sell 14 mtpa of LNG from the facility to customers in Asia and Europe.
