In a statement, Statoil said the man fell overboard at about 10am local time yesterday. A rescue bid was launched, but the man's body was recovered shortly afterwards.
Statoil said the deceased, who has not been named, was employed by Saipem. The Italian services player was installing a subsea separator at Tordis at the time of the accident.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
