The Laayoune-4 well, previously known as El Aaiun-4, hit gas shows in a gross 23-metre reservoir section, roughly 100 metres more shallow to prognosis which San Leon said confirmed its geological concept of a thick sand channel system.
It added that elevated mud gas readings, including measurements up to C3 in the shallowest sands, coincided with the logged reservoir section.
San Leon had intended to drill the well to a total depth of about 2000 metres, but a gas and liquid kick while drilling below the reservoir interval led to drilling being halted at 1814 metres.
