Well partner 3D Oil revealed no zones of commercial hydrocarbons had been encountered in the Sea Lion-1 well following wireline evaluation and sampling of formation fluids.
As a result, the joint venture now plans to plug and abandon the well and de-mobilise the jack-up West Telesto from the site.
The news comes after 3D Oil said on Monday the well had encountered indications of hydrocarbons in target zones while drilling to a total depth of 1672 metres.
