Reuters, citing local media, said a fire started on the second platform after a gas pipeline was damaged in heavy wind. It is said to be the same storm that damaged another platform, in the Oil Rocks field of Azerbaijan, leaving three workers missing.
Other reports, as well as Reuters, said more people were trapped on the burning platform, as life boats were unable to escape due to the high winds and powerful waves.
