The Danish contractor will carry out commissioning work on the Maersk Drilling-owned rig, having also supplied safety instrument systems and electrical and mechanical support during construction of the unit at Singapore’s Jurong Shipyard.
Compatriot rig contractor Maersk acquired the Friede & Goldman JU-2000E-design newbuild at a knockdown price of $190 million from bankrupt US driller Hercules Offshore earlier this summer.
Affiliate operator Maersk Oil had already chartered the rig for its ultra-high-pressure, high-temperature Culzean development, with the rig lined up for a five-year contract worth around $420 million, inclusive of a $9 million mobilisation fee.
