Delivery of the ultra-deepwater unit had already been postponed by two years to this month and the Seadrill-owned rig contractor has now exercised a third option to defer it by a further six months to 15 April 2017 as it faces a work drought due to a drilling market slump.

The Oslo-listed contractor, which ordered the unit for $526 million in 2011, has options of up to three years at six-monthly intervals to further delay delivery of the rig.
