The demonstration, which took place in Colombia’s Caqueta state, involved activists walking together to express dissatisfaction with Ecopetrol's plans to explore the region for oil.
However, several protestors reportedly turned violent and attacked assets owned by the state-run player.
As a result, six police officers and two army soldiers, who were stationed at Ecopetrol facilities, were wounded. The soldiers suffered wounds from knives and firearms, according to an Ecopetrol statement, as well as burn injuries.
