Shell said in a statement the planned merger would lead to a potential further 2800 job losses - about 3% of the combined company's global workforce - in addition to the 7500 manpower reductions already announced, with certain office locations also to be consolidated.
It followed unconditional clearance for the proposed merger from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) given earlier on Monday.
