A Shell spokeswoman confirmed that the company will cut roughly 190 positions from the 770 currently working in the US Gulf.
The new organisation "will require" about 25% fewer employee and contractor positions, she said.
"As part of the ongoing effort to maintain safety, identify efficiencies and increase accountability in our global operations, we will be implementing structural changes and personnel reductions in our deep-water Gulf of Mexico offshore organisation," the spokeswoman said.
