Shell deal snaps industry out of M&A lull

Shell's $70 billion bid to buy UK gas producer BG Group this week marked a sharp reversal from the first quarter of 2015 when the total value of oil-and-gas mergers and acquisitions fell to their lowest level in at least seven years.
