The Anglo-Dutch supermajor intends to use drillship Noble Globetrotter to tackle the prospect on Mississippi Canyon 475, according to a well permit cleared this month.
The rig is not yet on location. It was most recently drilling the Fort Sumter wildcat - another prospect named after a US Civil War battle - in Mississippi Canyon Block 566.
Shell has sanctioned a big semi-submersible hub facility, dubbed Appomattox, to produce from a cluster of finds, including Vicksburg, Rydberg and Gettysburg.
