The platform, which can produce up to 100,000 barrels per day of oil and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, lies about 220 miles (350 kilometres) south of Galveston, Texas, in the westernmost US federal waters.
An unnamed source told Reuters the platform could begin producing as soon as today.
