Joint venture partner Carnarvon Petroleum revealed Friday the well had encountered elevated gas readings and increased resistivity in porous zones at depths between 4200 metres to 4435 metres.
It said this indicated the presence of hydrocarbons and a working petroleum system, noting total gas readings across a roughly 25-metre clean sandstone were of equal magnitude to the levels achieved while drilling through the reservoir sections at the nearby Phoenix South-1 well.
