The pipeline, which would transport up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas a year, will run 8400 kilometres from the country’s north-west region of Xinjiang to the manufacturing hub of Guangdong province on the southern coast, Reuters said on Wednesday.
The pipeline could reportedly also transport conventional gas, shale gas and coalbed methane.
Last September, Sinopec said it would push ahead with plans to build a $10 billion coal-to-gas plant in Xinjiang with a capacity of 8 Bcm of gas a year.
