Somare was sworn in today by the PNG Governor-General Michael Ogio, and Somare has already named a cabinet with Francis Potape installed as Minister for Petroleum and Energy, according to local media reports.
The Supreme Court reportedly ruled on Monday that Peter O'Neill's government was unconstitutionally formed, leaving the decision with the Governor General.
MPs had voted to replace Somare with O'Neill in August because Somare had been absent for five months while in Singapore recovering from heart surgery.
