The Norwegian state-controlled player has unearthed the discovery that may contain as much as 28.3 million barrels of oil equivalent of resources, preliminary estimates show.

The 6407/7-9S (NF-2) exploration well on Statoil-operated production licence 107C was drilled to 4105 metres in a water depth of 323 meters with the semi-submersible Songa Delta. Licence partner Faroe Petroleum said it struck a 102 metres gross oil-bearing reservoir in the Middle and Lower Jurassic sandstone in the Ile formation and a 157-metre gross gas condensate-bearing column in the Lower Jurassic sandstone of the Tilje formation.
