Norwegian operator Statoil is on the hunt for a drilling rig to kick off a deep-water exploration campaign off Newfoundland, Canada, later this year.

The company said this week that it is planning to launch a two-well drilling programme in the Flemish Pass basin in mid-2017.

However, the company has yet to finalise a rig contract, spokeswoman Alex Collins told Upstream.

"Contract work is ongoing to secure a drilling rig for this programme," she said.

Flemish Pass is the home of Statoil's 2013 Bay du Nord discovery.
