The cancellation will take effect once well plugging operations at the Troll field off Norway are completed in early November, the state-owned operator said, confirming an earlier statement by the Safe union.
The 2001-built rig, owned by Stena Drilling, has been employed with the state-owned operator under a three-year extension of an earlier contract at a dayrate of around $497,000 - relatively high in today’s depressed drilling market - with expiry due on 7 February 2017.
