Subsea 7 said it had signed agreements with the Giske Community and with the Aalesund Regional Harbour Authorities to build the facility, estimated to cost at least Nkr150 million ($24.5 million).

The base will be able to prepare pipelines of up to 18 inches in diameter in lengths of up to three kilometres for spooling onto reels on pipelay vessels. The spoolbase will handle a range of pipe materials from traditional carbon steel to advanced pipe-in-pipe and plastic-lined designs, as well as steel catenary risers, the company said.
