Addressing delegates at the PESA – 2014 in Review session at APPEA 2015, Stickland highlighted the Carnarvon basin as the most active offshore basin with 11, mostly deep-water, wells drilled resulting in at least five discoveries.

2014 successes in the Carnarvon basin included Isoceles-1 and Toro-1 that found significant gas columns and the Bunyip and Rydal wildcats that encountered hydrocarbons. This basin is also home to Apache’s Black Chook-1 2014 well that discovered a new hydrocarbon pool in a Brunello field appraisal well - an asset that Apache earlier this year sold to Woodside Petroleum.
