Canadian player Suncor confirmed the Shell-operated Monterey Jack exploration well off Nova Scotia was unsuccessful, the second dud in a two-well campaign in the Shelburne basin.
Suncor said in its fourth-quarter earnings release that it had written off the well as exploration expense.
The result confirms what many had suspected after operator Shell said last month it had permanently abandoned the well on Exploration Licence 2424.
