Australia-listed partner Pan Pacific Petroleum said the CRD-3X probe was spudded on Saturday and is being drilled to a planned total depth of about 3686 metres.
The semi-submersible rig Ocean General is drilling the well in 337 metres of water in Block 07/03.
Pan Pacific said the well has been designed to resolve resource uncertainties in the Ca Rong Do field and prove up sufficient recoverable volumes to justify a commercial development.
