Rusa wholly owns two special prospecting authority (SPA) applications with acreage options which cover about 3.8 million hectares, covering inland areas that stretch from the towns of Exmouth to Carnarvon.
The acreage contains a large part of the Palaeozoic Merlinleigh sub-basin, the entire Byro sub-basin and associated shelfal areas.
In an announcement, Tap said the acreage positions were located close to the Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline, which it said could provide access to growing domestic and export markets.
