The US gas giant said the blast and fire broke out at around 11 am while work was under way on Thursday.
The plant was not operational at the time and no gas was in the pipeline, the company said in a statement.
Contractors were performing maintenance on a "slug catcher", a tank where impurities and liquids are separated from the stream of gas.
