The French energy giant has taken up a 40% interest in Block A-6 off the south-west coast, with joint venture partners Woodside Petroleum and MPRL E&P holding 40% and 20%, respectively, said MPRL E&P.
The partners are due to spud the Shwe Yee Htun-1 (formerly Saung-1) well with the drillship Deepwater Millennium in late 2015 once Woodside has completed an exploration well in South Korea with the same rig.
