The companies said Tuesday the a waiting period required under a 1976 anti-trust act will be terminated early. The action signals the clearing of the final regulatory hurdle in the merger process.
The deal now goes to Columbia's shareholders, who will put it to a vote on 22 June.
TransCanada and Columbia expect the transaction to close by 1 July.
