The Discoverer Americas has been idle in the US Gulf of Mexico since Statoil cancelled its charter for the drillship five months early in December. The rig had been operating in the US Gulf on a dayrate of $590,000.
According to a letter from the Texas Workforce Commission, Transocean expects to lay off between 70 and 80 employees reporting to the company's Houston offices.
