US supermajor ExxonMobil took a three-month option for the drillship Deepwater Champion, which had booked the rig for the US Gulf starting in May after drilling the successful Liza wildcat in Guyana earlier this year.
Marine traffic sites indicate the unit is still in the Caribbean sea off St Lucia.
The dynamically positioned unit will work through January 2016 at a rate of $395,000, a big discount from the present rate of $670,000 and prior rate of $708,000.
