Transocean to cut drillship crews

Transocean said it would cut between 130 and 140 employees associated with the drillship Discoverer Deep Seas, which had been working for Murphy Oil in the US Gulf of Mexico before the US independent terminated the contract earlier this month, well ahead of the scheduled contract date of November. Murphy had been paying $604,000 a day for the Discoverer Deep Seas on a contract that began in October 2013.
