The 17,000-tonne rig is being transported on heavy-lift vessel Hawk after leaving Broad Bay in the Outer Hebrides’ Isle of Lewis at 20:05 local time on Friday evening, with the voyage to Malta expected to take about two weeks dependent on the weather, according to the UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
The 1983-built semisub is due to have third-party equipment dismantled in Malta before being taken to a Turkish yard for scrapping.
