A pair of tugs now have towlines connected to the stricken rig, which has been stranded on rocks at Dalmore Bay near the village of Carloway on the western shore of the Isle of Lewis since running aground about two weeks ago during a failed towing operation in stormy seas.
Dutch contractor Smit Salvage has now agreed a towage plan with the government’s representative for maritime salvage and intervention Hugh Shaw, according to the UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
