Triple revealed on Tuesday that drilling had started on the Niaoshan-1 well last week which will target several coalbeds which will then be cored for desorption analysis and tested.
The well is expected to take about six weeks to reach a total depth of 1300 metres and be cored and tested.
Once operations are completed at Niaoshan-1, Triple will use the same rig to drill its second well on the project this year
The wells are being drilled under a cooperative joint venture between Triple and Chinese state-run coal miner LongMay Coal Mining.
