The company said Friday it was planning to gather up to 264 kilometres of 2D seismic over exploration permits 488, 489 and 447.

It has already submitted environmental documents for the survey with Western Australia's Department of Mines & Petrol­eum (DMP) and expects to kick off the shoot in early 2016.

UIL also said it had obtained approval from the DMP to vary the two-year work programme for EP447 which changes its commitments for the permit from needing to drill a well to instead only needing to gather 130 kilometres of 2D seismic and reprocess historic data.

“Activity
