A judicial review is expected to be heard this week in the UK High Court after a group of residents in northern England sued their local council for giving the green light to a fracking application by shale gas explorer Third Energy.
Friends of the Earth (FoE) and members of local residents’ group, Frack Free Ryedale, asked the High Court to review North Yorkshire County Council’s decision in favour of Third Energy’s application after the council voted in May to approve the company’s plans to fracture an existing two-mile deep well called Kirby Misperton.
