Industry leaders have condemned the legal bid by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee (EAC), which is accompanied by a report highlighting risks posed by shale exploration and finding it to be incompatible with targets to reduce carbon emissions.

The group of eight representatives in the 650-seat chamber is also seeking to block the proposals already part of the Infrastructure Bill to allow shale explorers underground access rights for drilling and horizontally fracturing on fully-permitted projects.
