The Sierra Club and its allies had sought to block construction at the Freeport LNG project in Texas and at Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass expansion in Louisiana. The environmentalists had argued that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which gave final approval to the projects, did not consider indirect effects construction of the facility would have, such as greater natural gas production and, along with it, greater greenhouse gas emissions.
