The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) laid out the details of the new rule, which includes both "prescriptive and performance-based standards."
The standards, which were developed with an "unprecedented" level of outreach to industry, take on blowout preventer systems, double shear rams, third party reviews of equipment, real-time monitoring data, safe drilling margins, centralisers and inspection intervals.
