Rigs drilling for natural gas fell by six to 193, while the number of rigs drilling for oil onshore US increased by two to 574.
The Gulf of Mexico gained a single rig to total 33 and near-shore drilling decreased by two for a total of three, according to Baker Hughes statistics.
California and Texas posted the biggest rig losses by state – down two each for totals of 10 and 338, respectively.
