Drillers added three oil rigs in the week to 7 October, bringing the total count up to 428, the most since February, but still below the 605 rigs seen a year ago, according to energy services firm Baker Hughes on Friday.
Meanwhile, the number of gas-directed rigs declined by two for 94, and the number of rigs categorised as "miscellaneous" rose by one to total two.
