The group, the Western Energy Alliance, accuses the BLM of bowing to pressure from environmental activists by cancelling or postponing lease sales. The WEA says the decision to cancel or postpone violates the Mineral Leasing Act, which requires four lease sales per year in each state with eligible parcels of land.

"The failure to hold regular lease sales consistent with the Mineral Leasing Act’s mandate results in unnecessary delays for — and can completely halt — development of certain federal minerals,” said Alex Obrecht, one of the attorneys leading the litigation.

"But
