According to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the sale will include around 8878 blocks, located from three to about 230 miles offshore, in water depths ranging from nine to more than 11,115 feet (three to 3400 metres).

The acreage lies off of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Central Gulf Sale 247 will be the twelfth offshore sale under the Obama administration’s Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas leasing programme for 2012 to 2017.
