The Labor government in the Australian state of Victoria is introducing legislation in a bid to ban the exploration and development of unconventional gas.
The Victorian government announced plans on Tuesday to introduce legislation later this year which will see a ban on all onshore unconventional gas in the state, including a ban on fracking.
The government said it made its decision “based on the best available evidence”, adding that it believed the risks involved in unconventional gas outweighed the potential benefits.
