Viking did not name who it was buying the ZJ-50DB-ST rig from, saying only that they were a Chinese rig builder and the pair had agreed a price of about US$15.3 million.
Once purchased, the rig will be leased back to the vendor on a bareboat charter basis, with the contract valued at US$31 million.
The vendor already has a “major South-Asian energy operator” to sub-lease the rig to which will see it deployed for work in the North African region.
