Previously, Weatherford has said it would end the second quarter with around 33,000 employees. That figure included previously announced cuts of 6500.
But chief executive Bernard Duroc-Danner told the Scotia Howard Weil conference he anticipates Weatherford will end 2016 with around 30,000 employees, which would represent a bigger cut than previous company estimates.
"I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the year it would be closer to 30,000 or so," he said of Weatherford's headcount.
